Australia Joins China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and More in Revealing the Most Affordable 2026 Travel Destinations with Skyscanner

Australia joins China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and more in being featured as top affordable travel destinations for 2026, according to Skyscanner’s new Cheapest Destination Planner. This tool is designed to help travelers quickly find budget-friendly destinations, making it easier to plan vacations without the stress of high costs. With destinations like Perth offering return flights under $517, 2026 promises to be a year of accessible travel for anyone looking to explore these exciting locations without breaking the bank.

January is the peak time for holiday planning, especially in Singapore, where 57% of travelers start mapping out their trips for the year ahead. Despite the excitement, many travelers feel stressed about the planning process. Skyscanner’s research found that 63% of travelers feel overwhelmed when booking their trips, with 69% citing cost as their primary concern.

Although 91% of travelers from Singapore have intentions to travel overseas in 2026, just 60% have secured their flights, and only 44% have booked their accommodation. Furthermore, a mere 10% have arranged car rentals for their trips. A large portion of travelers (55%) have yet to decide on a destination, while 43% are still on the hunt for the most competitive deals before making their final bookings.

According to the survey, travelers spend an average of 134 hours, or about 5.6 days, each year planning their overseas trips. With all the time spent researching options and comparing prices, planning a holiday can become a lengthy and stressful task. To address this, the Cheapest Destination Planner was created to help travelers quickly find affordable getaways without all the hassle.

The new tool simplifies the planning process by offering a curated list of the ten cheapest destinations for each month. Travelers simply select their desired travel month, and the planner will display a list of affordable destinations for that time, along with helpful details such as the average price for a return flight, the best days to fly, and reasons to visit each location.

The Cheapest Destination Planner is designed to make planning less time-consuming and more cost-effective, enabling travelers to maximize their experiences while staying within budget. Whether it’s a last-minute getaway or a planned vacation, this tool offers the perfect solution for those looking to travel without breaking the bank.

For 2026, Skyscanner identified the ten cheapest destinations for flights under 10 hours, all with average return flight prices under $517. Other destinations in Asia, like Xiamen, Chongqing, and Harbin in China, also offer affordable prices for return flights. For those willing to venture further, Perth, Australia, offers a great alternative, with return flights starting at $503.

Skyscanner’s analysis also revealed that the best day to book a flight in 2026 is typically Sunday, making it the most affordable day to travel. Despite this, many travelers in the survey mistakenly believed that Tuesday was the cheapest day to fly, with 28% selecting it as their preferred travel day. Other days such as Wednesday and Saturday were also considered by 23% and 2% of travelers, respectively.

This survey, conducted in November 2025 with 1,000 respondents, provides valuable insights into travel planning trends for 2026. The Cheapest Destination Planner helps travelers take advantage of these trends by offering a straightforward way to find affordable flights and destinations without wasting time on excessive research.
